Early in the morning today, the Seven Churches of Asia [Rev. 1:11; 3:1-4], Sardis, now Sardis. This was the capital of the ancient Lydian kingdom in the 6th century BC, depicted as a dying church. We also see the last few meters of the royal Persian Road from Susa to Sardis, built by Cyrus the Great and the "golden" river Pactolus.

Then we continue our journey to Philadelphia, another church of the Seven Churches of Asia, now called Alaşehir [Rev. 1:11; 3:7] and the only church that is not condemned. We see the remains of a brick-built Byzantine basilica with some high arches and some 11th-century frescoes. Keep visiting Laodicea. B.C.
